Scenic Salalah

Visit the highlights of Salalah city. This tour included Salalah’s well-known banana and coconut plantations, The Frankincense Land Museum, the traditional Souq filled with frankincense products and the majestic Sultan Qaboos grand mosque.

The stunning desert of Ar Rub Al Khali (The Empty Quarter) is Dhofars most remarkable and popular site with its untouched and magical sand dunes. Visit the legendary ‘Lost City of Ubar’ enroute. On the way back to Salalah, drive into Wadi ‘Dawka’ (UNESCO World heritage site) known as the ‘Frankincense Wadi’, which is also well known as the biggest collection of the naturally grown Frankincense trees in the region.

Enjoy a rewarding full day jeep safari to the Dhofar Mountains. The scenic tour includes the rugged Jebel Samhan Mountains dotted with Wadis, gorges, sinkholes and other geological curiosities. Visit Wadi Derbat, Jebel Samhan plateau, Tawi Attir Sink hole, alive with small birdlife, with probably a few wandering camels for company.

The excursion begins with a visit to the old fishing village of ‘Taqa’. Visit the century old ‘Taqa Castle’. Continue onto the ancient ruins of the once famous city of Sumharam (Khor Rohri -UNESCO World Heritage site). A picturesque drive then leads you to ‘Mirbat’, the ancient capital of Dhofar and the beginning of the ‘Frankincense trail’. Visit the ‘twin-domed Bin Ali’s Tomb’ as a photo stop. Proceed to the beach of Mughsail and admire the natural ‘Blow Holes’. Continue along the ‘Hair-pin-bend’ road towards West to see the historical ‘Frankincense trees’ growing in their natural habitat, deep down in the valleys.
