A full day tour to Nizwa and surrounding area from Muscat
We leave Muscat and drive to Nizwa. Nizwa was the capital of the Sultanate during the reign of Sultan Said bin Taimur, father of the current Sultan HM the Sultan Qaboos. As a center of trade, religion, art and education, Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman. The old part of the city can be recognized with its dominant stone castle and the towers of the mosque amidst the vast plantations of date palms. Visit the traditional souq and the Fort of Nizwa.
Bahla is famous for its old adobe houses and pottery. Bahla is also well known as the city of ghosts among the native population. Countless stories are told for generations about mysterious things that are happening in and around the city. The old Bahla Fort with its 12km (seven miles) wall is the oldest fort in Oman. The fort is believed to have been built in pre-Islamic times and is now declared as UNESCO world heritage site after the renovation.
The Castle of Jabreen is situated within a short distance of Bahla. Three-storied castle of Jabreen, an impressive example of Islamic architecture with beautiful wooden inscriptions and paintings on the ceilings, is one of the most beautiful stone castles of Oman. It was built in 1675 by Sultan Bila’rab bin Sultan al-Yaarubi as his summer residence.
