A full day tour to the highest mountain of Oman from Muscat

Experience a highlight of the Middle East landscapes. Start a day trip to the highest mountains of the Sultanate. Jebel Shams (meaning in Arabic “Mountain of the Sun”) is part of the Hajar Mountains. Start the excursion in the morning from Muscat after the breakfast and drive towards Nizwa.

En Route to Jebel Shams make a stop at the village of Al Hamra. The drive to Al Hamra alone is refreshing. Passing the typical desert landscape of Oman, suddenly you are surrounded by green and alluring palm trees. You then suddenly pull up to massive adobe (mud) houses that radiate a strong sense of pride and dignity. This village, which still highlights homes up to 400 years old, makes for a fantastic stop during your tour. This town was built on a tilted stone slab and is a rare display of traditional methods of housing in ancient Oman. Many of these houses have two floors, the ceilings are of wooden beams and palm fronds, and sealed with mud and straw.

The tour continues with the 4×4 vehicle to the Jebel Shams. Once you arrive at the top, you score incredible vistas of the canyons atop which Jebel Shams is perched. Experience the stunning view down the canyon and gorge which leave your head spinning. The fall is about 1000m and it is one of the most stunning views of the “Grand Canyon” of Oman. Enjoy a typical lunch at a local restaurant.
