Road To Muscat

Start an exciting journey from Salalah and continue along the southern coast to Shuwaymiah passing the coastal villages such as Sadha, Hadbin and Hasik. The journey from Hadbin to Hasik is a breathtaking event. Passing through the coastal road, the view of the Jabal Samhan Mountains and the steep limestone hills which have been eroded since millions of years and the beautiful carved rocks along the seashore is a panoramic view. Hasik’s chain of hills is broken by Wadis and small creeks with sandy beaches. Arrived in Shuwaymiah take a walk in the spectacular landscape in the Wadi with a small waterfall. Drive along the coastal road to Duqm. Visit an interesting Wadi with beautiful landscapes, the Wadi Ayninah. On the way to Ras Madraka we make a short detour to the beach side to watch some interesting landscapes. The place is called red lagoon, a small isolated lagoon with reddish colored water, and rich of birds. You may see hundreds and thousands of shore birds at the beach. Drive to Ras Madraka, an idyllic cove of white sandy beach and black rock. No less interesting is the so-called Rock Garden in Duqm, a lunar landscape with strangely shaped rocks that adorn the amazing landscapes of nature.

Proceed along the coastal road towards Sur. Make a brief stop at Shanna to see the vast salt planes, which are typical for the area. Pass the pictursque sand dunes of the Sharqiya desert on your left and make a brief stop to experinece the life of Bedouines. Arrived at Sur, check in to the hotel and relax in the evening.

Sight-seeing tour in Sur in the morning. On the way to Muscat drive to the Wadi Shab, and walk into the spectacular Wadi canyon along steep cliffs, rocks, pools and fruit plantations. Enjoy the scenery and serenity of the place. Pass by at the Bimmah Sinkhole Lake Park for a photo stop. Arrive in Muscat in the evening. Check in to the hotel and relax.

Stroll around the old city quarter and have a photo-stop at the official Palace of HM Sultan Qaboos. Visit the Muttrah souq. Visit the Nakhal fort, located at the foot of Al Hajar Mountains. Located amidst the beautiful palm groves, the fort is one of the most spectacular stone castles in the world. A little further, between the countless date and banana plantations, is one of the most famous hot springs in this region; Ayn Thowara. The water that flows through a small canyon creates a Wadi and an adjacent irrigation system (Al Falaj) channels the water in to the Plantations nearby. Drive back to Muscat.
