Sharqiya Sands

A full day tour to the northern desert of Sharqiya sands from Muscat

Early in the morning set off for the adventure of Sharqiya Sands, the sandy desert in northern Oman. The journey brings you to Wahiba desert, one of the most fascinating and mysterious regions of Oman. The Sharqiya Sands is large, totally enclosed sand sea, separated from the sands of the Empty Quarter by over 200km of gravel plain. It covers an area an area of some 8000km², stretching from near Qabil in to the south.

Drive into the countryside towards the south and make a first photo stop at Wadi Fanja. Continue the tour to the town of Ibra passing through the mountainous landscape. From there, the scenic sand dunes rise before your eyes. Here Bedouins, who pick you up with their 4×4 jeeps to bring you into the desert will welcome you. Enjoy a cup of Omani coffee (Khawa ) and dates at the House of a Bedouin. Together with the Bedouins, you will have a picnic lunch with traditionally prepared dishes amidst sand dunes. After having the lunch go for an adventures desert ride. Experienced drivers will drive up and down the dunes and this experience will certainly always remain in your memory.

After visiting the sandy desert of Sharqiya, continue your journey to one of the most visited Oasis in the region; Wadi Bani Khalid. The large natural pools are often a cordial invitation to take a dip. In addition, the date palms and astonishing landscapes around the Oasis add an unforgettable experience into your tour.

Return to Muscat in the late afternoon.
