Welcome to Salalah, the second largest city in Oman. You will be welcomed at the airport and start a half day tour.
Visit the west of Salalah in a half day excursion from Salalah. West of Salalah lies the Jebel al Qamar, one of the most dramatic sections of the Dhofar Mountains. Dotted with tiny coastal villages, Mountains with lush green vegetation, areas with naturally grown frankincense trees and some magical beaches, west Salalah is worth visiting during your stay in Dhofar making a remarkable short excursion. Mughsail Beach, Blow holes, hair pin bend road and the naturally grown frankincense trees are the highlights of the tour.
Dinner and overnight in Salalah
Combine the highlights of the East and the city of Salalah in a single full day trip. Visit the most popular cultural heritage sites of Dhofar. The excursion begins in the morning with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, located in the central Salalah. Built in 2009 the mosque welcomes thousands of worshippers.
Proceed to the old fishing village of ‘Taqah’. Visit the century old ‘Taqah Castle’, and continue to the ancient ruins of the once famous city of Sumharam (Khor Rohri). Khor Rori was an important port on the coast of Dhofar, and one of the major trading cities with frankincense, believed to have been the hub & harbor for the shipping of Frankincense (UNESCO World Heritage site).
A picturesque drive then leads you to ‘Mirbat’, the ancient capital of Dhofar and the beginning of the ‘Frankincense trail’. Stroll through the streets lined with old Omani houses & visit the ‘twin-domed Bin Ali’s Tomb’ as a photo stop …a classic example of medieval architecture.
Visit “The Museum of the Frankincense Land”. Opened in July 2007 at Al Balid Archaeological Park, a UNESCO heritage site located in Salalah, the Frankincense Land Museum is the latest addition to Oman’s heritage and cultural scene.
Drive through lush green plantations of vegetables & fruits. Make a brief stop to taste a fresh coconut water drink at fruit stalls lining the streets within the periphery of the old Salalah town (Haffah).
View the Official Palace of His Majesty the Sultan (Al Husn Palace) & stroll through the old Haffah souk, famous for the sale of high quality Frankincense & numerous other Dhofari traditional souvenirs.
You will have an ample opportunity for shopping at the Souq, before you head to the airport.
We drop you at the airport after the tour for your departure flight.
